Yes, that’s what historic indicates.
The original “Ronald McDonald” was Willard Scott, of Today fame. Part of a local advertising campaign in Washington, D.C., by the local franchisee.
I remember seeing Elvis in the Graffenweir, Germany Snack Bar except he was out on maneuvers and his uniform was covered with mud. I was dressed in freshly laundered and starched fatigues since I was supplying the communications to the people running his unit through their testing and causing “The Pelvis” to get all muddy. Yes I laughed then and still do 55-56 years later.
