Sushi

It’s probably not a good idea to order sushi from your hotel’s room service, especially raw fish. Firstly, because fish doesn’t travel well. Secondly, because your room will smell like sushi until the next morning or even more.

“I would also avoid raw or undercooked foods such as sushi; not because of risk of coronavirus, but because of the risk of foodborne illness,” says Wright.

Utensils and serving trays

If before the coronavirus pandemic no one would even think about the safety of using utensils and serving trays from the hotel you’re staying in, things have changed a little right now. However, they’re generally safe to use so there’s no reason to be concerned.

“The foodservice staff sanitizes utensils and serving trays which would kill any virus,” says Wright. “Again, the risk of transmitting or catching coronavirus from the food packaging is very low but is you are still worried, you can request disposable utensils and plates.”

If you want to be more environmentally conscious, you could consider bringing your own reusable water bottle when traveling, a bamboo cutlery set, and other eco-friendly items you might use on a daily basis.
