19. Identical twins are not identical – Although they originate from the same fertilised egg, identical twins still carry small differences in their genes. Examining twin genomes closely, researchers found variations in the numbers of copies of a given gene, possibly caused by mutations during early development. This variation could explain why sometimes one twin develops a genetic disorder while the other is spared.
