Firstly, one age group, in particular, has been affected by blood clotting. There’s not enough evidence yet about why women aged between 18 and 50 tend to experience these rare side effects.
However, as William Schaffner, MD, an infectious diseases specialist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville has explained, if you don’t fall into this category you have no reason to worry.
Medical experts still don’t know why younger women tend to experience blood lotting, but they believe it has something to do with the involvement of antibodies. Dr. Schaffner also added that younger women tend to have the immune-mediated disease, even though it’s still unclear why.
Robert Glatter, MD, an emergency physician with Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, believes it has something to do with the function of the platelets which is responsible for the blood clotting, just like it happened with the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Secondly, the blood clots occurred a few days after vaccination, so you don’t need to worry if you’ve gotten the vaccine more than two weeks ago. As Dr. Schaffner has explained, everyone that’s beyond the 13 days period has absolutely no reason to get worried, as data from the CDC has shown.
