Here are 10 tricks from Benjamin Franklin that will double your productivity. What his daily schedule shows and what were the values he did not rebate with.
Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of the United States, has proposed a simple but effective daily routine that will increase your productivity.

Although the list was created 300 years ago, it contains principles that will help you be distracted from the modern world and stay focused on important tasks.

Benjamin Franklin is known as one of the founders of the United States of America but has done more than that during his life. In his 84 years of life, he invented lightning, made significant discoveries in the field of electricity, wrote books, composed music and sang at a high-level violin, harp, and guitar, founded many civic organizations, including the University in Pennsylvania, and more.

1. Keeping Simplicity

The first thing to note in Franklin’s daily schedule is simplicity. There are only six things scheduled for each day, and one of these is sleep – an obvious necessity. There is no overwhelming list of things to do. It is simple and focused on the essentials, which makes it extremely effective.

2. Go to sleep and wake up to the same hours every day

One of Franklin’s most popular mantras was that “going early to sleep and early awakening makes a healthy, rich and wise man.” Every day, Franklin woke up at 5 am and went to sleep at 22.00, sleeping seven hours each night. It is important to remember, however, that what matters most is not the moment when you go sleep or wake up, but the consistency of the sleep program. If you sleep and wake up at the same time every day, you train your brain to fall asleep faster and improve your sleep quality.

3. Spend time alone, shortly after waking up

Franklin took a shower and then “focused on positive energy.” In other words, he spent some time in prayer or meditation. This ritual gave Franklin clarity and focus on the plan of that day.

4. Fix what you plan to do and make your plan for every day

Every morning, before going to work, Franklin set his goals for that day with an important question: What’s good to do on this day? Establishing an intention and creating a plan of action each morning ensures the focus on the most important task and so you will avoid being distracted.

5. Dedicate Your Time for Study

In the daily program, Franklin has set a time to “take advantage of present and study,” meaning that he dedicates his time to personal projects, independent and separate from work. He keeps a moment of the day for reading books or magazines. As an alternative, you can spend your time learning a foreign language, singing an instrument or enjoying your hobbies.

6. Book your time for intense work

In order to plan the day, Franklin has also focused on efficient time management and has scheduled his activities in such a way as to protect his day of unexpected interruptions. More specifically, Franklin has allocated two four-hour periods – from 8.00 to 12.00 and from 14.00 to 18.00 – for profound work and uninterrupted focus on his most important tasks. Franklin also reserves two hours – from 12.00 to 14.00 – for lunch.

7. Arrange your stuff after work

After a tiring day of work, it’s easy to leave the office and leave things messy, and you’ll have them set up the next day. This makes you lose precious time, will and energy that could have been used immediately to work on important tasks. To avoid this problem, Franklin cleared his workspace and put things in order before leaving the office.

8. Plan your rest hours

After working every day, Franklin left everything related to work and chose eating dinner and to spend the rest of the day relaxing: listening to music or sitting with friends. This helps to energize your brain and body and prepare them for the next day.

9. Evening reflects on your day

Even before you go to sleep, Franklin reflects on what was done on that day and asked his important question: “What did I do well today?” After understanding what went well, but also what he could do better during the day, Franklin was thinking about what to change in his program.

10. Do not aspire of perfection

Celebrate your little earnings and try to self-indulge yourself when you fail with your plans because at the end of the day it is the effort that really matters.
