Animals That Heart Each Other

1. Southern rockhopper penguins mate for life despite living hundreds of kilometres apart most of the time.

Using GPS trackers, scientists know that their mating season lasts less than a month. Yet, year after year, they somehow manage to find each other in order to mate with the same partner.

2. Many birds go to equally enormous lengths to snag a long-term partner. Albatrosses perform elaborate dances, while male bowerbirds use whatever they can find, including shells, trinkets and flowers, to build fancy nests.

3. One of the most recognisable images of romance in the animal kingdom comes from mute swans, whose long, curved necks come together to form a perfect love heart as they bow to each other during courtship.
