There are more myths about these individuals than there are facts about them.

D.B. Cooper

Dan or D.B. Cooper is a nickname for a hijacker who is notorious for taking over a commercial plane leaving Portland, Oregon on the day before Thanksgiving in 1971. The 40-somewhat-looking man gave the fake name Dan Cooper and, during the flight, told the flight attendant about the bomb in his briefcase. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, he demanded four parachutes and $200,000 in $20 bills, about $1.2 million in today’s dollars.

After the aircraft managed to land and let out passengers, they refueled, and Cooper forced the pilots and flight attendants to keep the plane under 10,000 feet at slower than 200 knots. Then he parachuted out of the plane with the ransom money in his hand. No one has ever identified, captured, or heard from him again. And even though he used the name Dan Cooper, the reporter misheard this as D.B Cooper, starting his false yet famous nickname. Of course, some people assume they know the true identity of Cooper— like a retired FBI agent— but the case is still officially unsolved.
