Mackinac Island should basically be called “Ghost Island,” because the whole place is apparently crawling with apparitions, cold spots, and other strange events. Specific locations known to be haunted include the Grand Hotel (which was built upon an old military cemetery and has seen countless unexplainable incidents), Mission Point Resort (formerly Mackinac College, which was only open for four years and was allegedly the site of a suicide by a heartbroken lover), the so-called “Drowning Pool,” and Fort Mackinac (once visited by Syfy’s Ghost Hunters)
If you’re a history buff, you’ll be interested to know that U.S. Presidents Truman, Kennedy, Ford, [George H.W.] Bush, and Clinton have all stayed at the Grand Hotel, which was also the location of Thomas Edison’s first public phonograph demonstration.
