Whatever this guy did, it was probably something very bad, and Susan left him without looking back. That means Jim and Susan’s motel is now basically Jim’s motel only. However, despite the fact that he is the only one in charge at this moment, he managed to provide the travelers with clean and comfortable rooms with an indoor pool and TV cable. That’s cool!
Let’s have a bit of compassion for the guy. He is probably upset because of the breakup, and because “Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures,” he even used the neon sign to ask her to come back. Let’s spread the word and hope for the best!
