The Spanish city would’ve owned the Eiffel Tower now if they would have liked it then. They thought the design was too ugly, so Gustave Eiffel pitched it to Paris instead. At first, it was a temporary landmark during its 1889 International Exposition.
Funny thing is that French critics didn’t like it much either.
