Rock Hudson was gay
Rock Hudson was known as one of Hollywood’s sexiest leading men between 1950 and 1960, that’s why everyone was shocked when it was reported on July 26, 1985, that he had AIDS. During those times, AIDS was associated with gay men, even though Rock Hudson never confirmed his sexuality publicly.

However, his friends and family knew, since they also confirmed it after his passing. His autobiography ‘Rock Hudson: His Story’ also talked about his sexuality. According to People, Lee Garlington, Hudson’s ex-boyfriend was also the love of his life, as written in his autobiography.
Additionally, a recorded conversation between Rock Hudson and his ex-wife, Phyllis Gates, was leaked to the press a few years prior to his death. In that recording, Hudson confirmed his sexuality and admitted to having many gay sexual affairs.
