Now that a new variant of the virus has emerged in the United States, people are wondering whether it is more dangerous and contagious than the original one. Since the beginning of the pandemic, experts have tried to find out how the virus affects people of all ages, and whether age is an indicator of how at-risk they are.
It’s been proven that age represents a greater risk for a more severe coronavirus infection, therefore, the older you are, the greater the chances to develop harsher COVID-19 symptoms, and even the likelihood of dying, especially when there are other underlying conditions.

However, a recent study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tells a whole lot different story, as people under the age of 24 appear to be more likely to contract the virus. They published their findings in the agency’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) on Jan. 13, and find out the age groups that were initially safer in the face of the virus are now more at risk for catching it.

According to the study, “COVID-19 cases in children, adolescents, and young adults have increased since summer 2020, with a weekly incidence higher in each successively increasing age group.”
