We’re still not sure how risky traveling by plane really is right now, because there’s a lot of conflicting data about it, as many studies were made before masks were mandatory on most airlines.
However, longer flights make it impossible to keep your mask on the whole time, as you still have to eat and drink some water, but some passengers have even been removed for not following the mask mandates when they should have. Also, others believe the process of getting to your seat is highly risky as well, as you have to pass through security, touch a lot of high-risk surfaces and wait in long lines with other strangers.
According to Anthony Fauci, elderly people should avoid flying in an airplane this time of the year. However, younger people who do not have any underlying conditions are a whole other story, Fauci explains.
