The study has shown that Pfizer’s efficacy against COVID-19 lasts at least six months.
A recent study released on April 1 by Pfizer and BioNTech has shown that the vaccine offers protection for at least six months after receiving the second shot. The researchers gathered data from more than 46,000 participants who have received the Pfizer vaccine, while 850 of them have only gotten a placebo.
The results have shown that 927 participants got infected with COVID-19 a few days after their second shot, but only 77 have received the actual vaccine, while the others received a placebo, as previously mentioned.
These findings show how effective really is the Pfizer vaccine in preventing infection, reaching a 91.3 percent efficacy in preventing symptoms and hospitalizations, for at least six months after the second shot.
According to Ugur Sahin, MD, CEO, and co-founder of BioNTech, “It is an important step to further confirm the strong efficacy and good safety data we have seen so far, especially in a longer-term follow-up.”
