Former TheView co-host and actress Rosie Perez identified herself as a state ward for almost a decade of her childhood, making her today a fierce advocate of children’s rights. At the tender age of three, Perez was admitted to a Catholic home for boys and girls, since her mentally ill mother, according to Children’s Rights, could not care for her.
Longing to reside with her aunt, Perez continued to travel to various homes that did not offer the affection and attention that she wanted. “No one tucked us in. No one kissed us goodnight. No one told us they loved us and they’d see us in the morning,” she wrote in her memoir, Handbook for an Unpredictable Life.
