Omphalophobia
An oddly specific bodily phobia, omphalophobia is the irrational fear of belly buttons, whether it belongs to you or other people. Sufferers will avoid touching their belly button and in some cases with avoid the stomach area all together. Even seeing someone else touch theirs can induce anxiety, nausea and even vomiting.
It’s believed that the condition arises in people who were perhaps a bit too obsessed with their belly button as a child. Prodding and poking at it and in some cases hurting themselves. In extreme cases, some people actually believe that if they touch it, they may somehow ‘untie’ it and cause their guts to literally spill out onto the floor.
