3. Poor vs White kids
Another incident out of 2019 still has us cringing. In Iowa, when delivering a speech to a minority activist group Joe Biden made a serious faux pas as he was talking of the less fortunate. When talking about the programs that students are offered, such as the Advanced Placement one, he talked about the preconceptions that people may have.
Thus he said that people generally have this idea that if you are poor you cannot do these types of programs, equating the amount of money one has to how intelligent they are. As right as this statement was, he followed up with the statement: “Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.” Ouch! That was a big slip! He tried to save it and continued to name other types of kids, wealthy, Asian, black, and so on.
Even so, that was a pretty big Freudian slip if you ask us.
