10 Songs Banned For Utterly Stupid Reasons

The Kinks – “Lola”

“Lola” was released in 1970, and many people considered it controversial since the song was about a transgender woman, and we all know how sensitive this topic still is in this day and age, let alone 40 years ago.

So not everyone found this story comfortable, this is why several radio stations in the United States chose not to play the song, while it became completely banned in Australia. However, even though the song was censored by the BBC, they did not care at all about the transgender woman.

Moreover, the song was censored because it contained product placement of Coca-Cola, and not because of Lola’s gender. That’s exactly why The Kinks had to change and re-record the line, changing it into ‘cherry cola’.

After the change was made, there was nothing wrong with the song and BBC no longer had a problem with it.
