Flying without a face mask.

If wearing a face mask during flights is not exactly what you’d wish for after the coronavirus pandemic, you’ll have to find a different mode of transportation, as they might become mandatory even post COVID-19.

As Nicholas E. Calio, Airlines for America president and CEO mentioned in a statement, all the airlines in the United States are very serious when it comes to wearing a face mask. Even as the number of cases continues to drop significantly, the use of face masks might become a long-term requirement.

The use of masks will be affected by a lot of factors, including the global progress of vaccinations around the world, the vaccine’s effectiveness at preventing the transmission of the virus, and the infection trends.

And even when the COVID-19 pandemic will be long gone, we’ll likely still see people wearing face masks on the streets and in large crowds. After all, let’s not forget that face masks are essential in preventing and transmitting certain respiratory illnesses, especially in close quarters and congested areas.

According to Stuart Cohen, division chief for infectious diseases at UC Davis Health in Sacramento, the mask protects you from a lot of other things, not just COVID-19, that’s why it makes a lot of sense for face masks to stay with us for a long, long time, even after the pandemic is over.
