1. Bloody Mary

Perhaps one of the myths that have transcended generations the best, this one is bound to exist for the years to come. The story is simply effective: you look into a bathroom mirror and if you say “Bloody Mary” a certain number of times, something will happen. The story has so many versions that what happens is different: from getting cursed, seeing the bloody figure, to seeing your future husband.

However, the legend has started way before modern times, in England with Queen Mary I. She earned the nickname due to her relentless persecution of protestants: about 300 protestants dies during her reign, all burned at the stake due to religious hermeticism. Quite different from the popular urban tale, but still bloody nonetheless.

2. Monsters under the bed

The origins of this urban myth are not sure, but there are plenty of versions floating around. From boogeymen to demons and ghouls, anything can lurk under your bed, and anyone with a strong enough imagination can conjure up sounds to bring them up to reality.

However, the monster under the bed can be real, it just comes in the form of a corpse.

Potentially inspired by the urban legend, there are a few dozen new reports over the years of people finding dead bodies in their hotel rooms: from sleeping on a mattress that had a body hidden inside it, to discovering the remains of a missing person under the bed, it would be a wise decision to check under the bed if your room somehow smells funky.

3. Sketchy Halloween candy

Going trick or treating in your neighborhood is always a nice experience, especially if the community is close-knit. Yet sometimes when you ventured to other parts of the town, there were countless things you were warned about. However, the myth that the candy could be tempered with should be taken seriously.

From candies that were poisoned to razors and needles in the candy bags, numerous people tried to harm children on Halloween night. It’s better to be safe than sorry, so make sure to carefully check the children’s candy bags: the latest horror story is about the parents who found little bags with meth crystals between the candy. So expect anything around this time of year, the urban legend is in fact true.
