Amelia Earhart

Who doesn’t know Amelia Earhart? After all, in 1928, she achieved the amazing feat of being the first woman to pilot a plane all across the Atlantic Ocean. And if that wasn’t enough, she was also the first person (man or woman) to fly over both the Pacific and the Atlantic oceans. The woman just didn’t stop trying to achieve her goals and dreams.

What you probably didn’t know was the fact that she was just the 16th woman in the world to receive a pilot’s license at that point in history! Unfortunately, we couldn’t see what else she would achieve as she mysteriously disappeared in 1937 when she attempted to fly around the world. This tragedy doesn’t take away from her numerous accolades and from her being one of the most amazing women in history!

Gertrude Ederle

Gertrude Ederle is a sports legend! However, if you aren’t into swimming, you may not be familiar with her or with her accomplishments. A native New Yorker, she became a passionate swimmer at a young age and ended up competing in the 1924 Olympics, representing the U.S. However, this is not the accomplishment we are talking about (no matter how impressive it is).

Two years later, in 1926, she became the first woman to swim across the English Channel! Not only had it never been done before by men, but the length was also definitely a challenge! She proved she could do it just as well as any man, if not better. Her entire swim took a total of 14 hours and 31 minutes, which was faster than even some male swimmers that completed this challenge!
