Fall is dessert season
Pumpkin and apple pies are among the most famous autumn desserts that come to mind when planning to cook something delicious. But autumn is also the best season for cooking cobbler.
If you don’t know what cobbler is, it’s basically a dessert made with fresh fruit (apple, plum, apricot) put in a dish topped with batter. When baked, it becomes crisp and delicious, and it can be served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. You can thank me later.
Autumn is campfire season
While some people prefer a campfire in the summer, others believe that fall is the best season to go camping. The weather is cooler, the air is crisper, the leaves are changing color, what’s not to like about that?
Autumn is the best season for camping, even though you’ll need to pack extra jackets just in case it’s colder than you expected, but you can also get warm near a campfire. Plus, you can enjoy a weekend off in nature with family and friends, without having to worry about bugs.
Nothing compares to camping in autumn, when warm days of fun activities fade into cold nights of standing by the campfire and sharing spooky stories, considering that Halloween is approaching.
Fall scent
Yes, there’s a unique fall scent that can only be felt in certain months. And as Matthew Cappucci, meteorologist, explains, the scent is caused mostly by the leaves. He wrote for The Washington Post that leaves dies when they fall from the tree, so they emit distinctive scents and gasses as they take their last breath.
He describes the smell of those gasses as a combination between chlorine and the exhaust of a dryer vent. Additionally, the smell is connected to a nerve in your brain called the trigeminal nerve, so all the sensations in your face, including your nose, are linked to it. And every time you breathe, the nerve activates, letting the brain associate the cooler, fall air with a unique scent.
The Northern Lights
The Northern Lights are an incredible natural phenomenon that’s even more sensational in the fall because that’s when the autumnal equinox happens and the sun crosses the Earth’s equator line.
“This process only happens when the solar wind’s magnetic field is facing southward relative to the Earth, and because of the way the Earth is tilted, that’s more likely at equinoxes,” Dr. Melanie Windridge, author of Aurora: In Search of the Northern Lights, told Travel & Leisure. “There’s basically more chance of getting a good connection between the solar wind and Earth during the equinoxes.”
Fall is the perfect season for relationships
Autumn is known as the cuffing season, so if you’re single right now, you might find a partner during the following months. According to Vogue, the cuffing season is that period between autumn and winter when single people are looking for a significant other to keep them warm during those cold months.
Even though it sounds absurd, it’s actually a real thing. The data experts at Thinknum Media gathered information from dating apps like Tinder, OkCupid and Meetic and discovered an increase in active users starting right after Thanksgiving.
