9. Cara Delevigne
The model and actress Cara Delevigne confessed she was suicidal in her teenage year.
Opening up about her experience with depression, she says: “I was suicidal. I couldn’t deal with it anymore. I realized how lucky I was and privileged I was, but all I wanted to do was die… I felt so guilty because of that and hated myself because of that, and then it’s a cycle.”
After having what is called a “mental breakdown,” she didn’t want to go back to school for six months until she agreed to go back on medication because she didn’t want to be hospitalized.
“I hate meds,” she told Esquire, looking back on how mental health medication made her feel. “I think they saved my life and they’ve probably saved my mother’s life but I don’t agree with them. It’s so easy to abuse them.”
Delevigne decided to go off her medication when she was 18 because she wanted to “feel” things again.
“And that week, I lost my virginity, I got into fights, I cried, I laughed. It was the best thing in the world to feel things again,” Delevigne told Esquire. “And I get depressed still but I would rather learn to figure it out myself rather be dependent on meds, ever.”
