1. Katy Perry
Katy Perry is among the celebrities that have spoken openly about dealing with depression. She said she felt “ashamed” of taking antidepressants, especially because of her previous records, such as “Fireworks”, where she sends a message of positivity and self-love. Nevertheless, she also expressed how much medication helped her in overcoming a severe depression.
Perry opened up about experiencing bouts of depression in the past, but this one was the most severe, she even struggled to find comfort in music, which was usually an escape for her.
“It was one of those things where I’d sprained my brain a little bit,” Katy Perry said in a recent interview with Howard Stern. “I felt like I needed crutches for my brain, and I did. And I used those crutches to get back on my feet.”
She was a guest on the JMO Confidential Podcast where she shared her experience, speaking openly about lifting the stigma regarding depression.
“There were some pretty dark days, and I think that was pretty evident on my last record, what I was going through publicly and it was pretty intense. I became very depressed, more depressed than I had been in the past. In the past, I was able to just kinda brush it off my shoulders and write a song about it, and get on with my life, and this time I couldn’t get out of bed. And so I had to do some real hard work, around that, and why, and dig really deep. So I’ve been on a real wellness journey the past couple of years. ”
