7. Texas
Texas recorded a total of 5,489 new cases Tuesday and set a new high for the number of hospitalizedCOVID-19 patients with 4,092 for the 12th consecutive day. Republican Governor Greg Abbott, who last week has said there is “no reason” to be concerned about the state situation, told Texans on Tuesday that they should stay at home if they have that possibility.
He also cautioned that if things don’t turn around, restrictions might be implemented again on businesses. “That’s the last thing that either I or those businesses want to do,” he said. “So the best thing that we can all do is work on continuing to open up businesses but do so in ways that use safe practices that include wearing a mask.”
