8. Alabama

Newly added to the “red zone” states list, Alabama is still in a critical situation. The state is seeing a positive test rate of 14.1 percent and a high daily new case rate of 19.0 per 100,000 residents, according to a Covid Act Now report.

Alabama has more than 154,000 COVID-19 cases, with more than 6,200 being recorded in the past week, even though the 0.94 rate might indicate that the virus is spreading slowly.

7. Utah

Utah is also one of the states that’s currently in a critical situation, with a positive test rate of 14.1, just like Alabama. Moreover, Utah is currently dealing with a high infection rate of 1.25 and a high daily new case rate of 25.0 cases per 100,000 residents.

According to those numbers, it can easily be seen that the situation is not that good in the state, putting Utah in the red on the HGHI map. At the moment, there are more than 72,000 COVID-19 cases in the state, with 5,880 new cases recorded in the last seven days, as The New York Times stated.

6. Kansas

The situation in Kansas is also alarming right now, considering the state has seen a positive test rate of 15.1 percent. However, the state’s infection rate is 0.98, which is not that bad, but the state has 19.7 daily new cases per 100,000 residents which is quite troubling.

At the moment, Kansas has around 59,291 COVID-19 cases, with more than 4,010 registered in the last week.
