A new COVID-19 variant was found in the U.K. in December 2020 and the country appears to have lost control of the virus, which made them initiate a new lockdown on January 4. The new COVID-19 strain, also known as B.1.1.7 is far more infectious and transmissible than the original one, likely by 50 percent, however, researchers all over the world are working to find out more about it.

Because it’s so contagious, the new strain has already made its presence seen in more than 30 countries and 15 American States as of January 15. Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) believes the new COVID-19 strain will soon become the dominant variant in the U.S.
