People with dementia are more at risk for contracting the coronavirus!
According to The New York Times, the researchers at the School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University examined the health records of more than 61.9 million people over the age of 18 who live in the United States between February 1 and August 21, 2021. Moreover, this study used the largest data set in coronavirus research so far, as it covered more than one-fifth of the United States population.
Additionally, the researchers gathered data from more than 360 hospitals and 317,000 healthcare providers from all 50 states, which is impressive. After analyzing all the records, the researchers have discovered that 810 COVID patients out of a group of 15,770 had dementia.
After taking into consideration the most important demographic factors, including sex, age, and race, the researchers came to the conclusion that people with dementia were more at risk for contracting COVID, compared to individuals with other physical conditions.
