Although Connecticut has fewer deaths than many of the states that follow, its nearly 4,100 deaths represent a per capita rate of 115 deaths per 100,000 people, the third-highest rate of death in the U.S. The counties of Hartford (144 per 100,000), Fairfield (140 per 100,000), and New Haven (118 per 100,000) were the hardest hit, doubling the state-wide death rate.
