“The catchphrase ‘To boldly go where no man has gone before’ is an example of a split infinitive,” Chassé says, explaining that the adverb “boldly” is wedged in the middle of the infinitive “to go.”
“Split infinitives were thought of as a no-no in the past, but most grammarians today don’t have a problem with them,” she adds.
