Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s director, Rochelle Walensky, MD, is worried about the number of COVID-19 cases that continue to rise at the moment.
“The goal is not to sort of open up travel, open up all things because … we’re scaling up vaccination. The goal in those first 100 days has always been to sort of making sure that we are in a place to be out of this pandemic,” Walensky explained.
At the moment we’re seeing an average of 70,000 coronavirus cases per day, which isn’t an ideal situation for our country, Walensky added. Even though the number of cases has declined a little since the press briefing, we’re still dealing with more than 50,000 COVID cases a day, so it’s fair to say we’re not exactly in a good place right now.
