Walensky said during a White House COVID-19 Response Team briefing on March 3 that now is not a good time to ignore the public health precautions and lift all restrictions. In fact, the following months are very important in deciding the future of the pandemic in our country, she added.
Walensky warned people once again about the importance of following public health precautions after several states (including Texas, Montana, Mississippi, and Iowa) have removed mask mandates.
Additionally, other states such as Massachusetts, Arkansas, and New York have already begun allowing more people into restaurants, bars, gyms, and other businesses. Walensky is worried that these changes might be premature and could contribute to another spike in the number of cases.

She added that things could go in the wrong direction very soon if we hurry to get our old lives back. Fauci also told Chuck Todd on Meet the Press on February 28 that prematurely lifting restrictions can do more harm than good.
It’s just not the time to start pulling back, Fauci added. While it can be understandable why people would want to get their pre-pandemic lives back, wanting to pull back just because things appear to be on the right trajectory is not a good strategy.
“But you’ve got to get that baseline down lower than it is now,” Fauci continued saying. Pulling back too much right now is a bad idea and way too premature, he added.
