Thanksgiving gatherings will look a whole lot different this year for everyone, because of COVID-19. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases has shared in a recent interview with CBS News that he’s going to take all the precautions needed to stay safe during Thanksgiving.
As Fauci has mentioned in his interview, “My Thanksgiving is going to look very different this year,” he said. “I would love to have it with my children, but my children are in three separate states throughout the country, and in order for them to get here, they would all have to go to an airport, get on a plane, travel with public transportation.”
Fauci decided not to meet in person with his children for this year’s Thanksgiving celebration because we prioritize his family’s health. While it can be very hard not to see your loved ones for the holiday, experts believe this is the best choice if you want to stay safe.
According to Anne Rimoin, PhD, MPH, professor of epidemiology at UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, “As the number of cases continues to rise across the United States, it’s important to stay vigilant about preventing the spread of coronavirus as we approach the holidays.”
However, that doesn’t mean you should just skip this year’s Thanksgiving celebration, you just have to be a little more careful and take all the precautions needed for you to stay healthy.
With the help of infectious disease, public health experts, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention we came up with the top three pieces of advice that will help you stay safe!
