31. “I didn’t work that closely with them.”
When someone asks you about an interesting or powerful person who they know used to work in the same place you do, this little lie can come in very handy. You ‘re not trying to say that you were thick as thieves, but that you crossed paths on occasion — even though they had no idea who you were.
32. “I gotta run.”
You’ve got nowhere else to be, but this party is starting to get boring, and you know you ‘d rather hang out at home. You just don’t want to offend people, so you’re trying to add a little urgency to your leaving.
