The “Gardening” Shirt
Melania did get quite a lot of heat for her outfit on this day, but we cannot say that she looked bad. If anything, the outfit looked really good on her, despite the price point. When she welcomed the Boys and Girls Club of Washington back to the White House to continue the legacy started by Michelle Obama, she wore a tartan blouse and pristine converse shoes. Why did the button down garner so much bad press? Maybe because people found the blouse online and saw it cost $690. While looking quite appropriate for gardening, we do not believe such an expensive blouse had its place there.
The Gucci Blouse
Unfortunately, Melania has become associated with this type of blouse, both because of her husband’s comments and because she seems to be quite fond of them. She wore this style of blouse with a bow a number of times, but the most noted one was the one she wore to the second presidential debate: it was a Fuchsia pink Gucci blouse that cost her $1,100.
The blouse itself is not outrageous at all, but the name of it as it is known in the fashion world is quite vulgar: it is known as a pu**y bow blouse. Other influential people have worn this type of shirt (such as Emanuelle Macron’s wife), but since Trump made that inappropriate comment about women’s private parts, the people wondered if there was a double meaning to Melania wearing it to the presidential debate.
French attire
When the French president and his wife visited Washington in 2018, both Melania and French first lady Brigitte Macron attracted everyone’s attention as they both chose to wear white outfits. This was not that surprising as the two have dressed alike before on other occasions, because they seem to share the same sense of fashion. Melania’s clothes were surprising, and we are not talking about her Michael Kors jacket ($2,195) or the Christian Louboutin heels ($775), but rather about her impressive hat.
The hat is a Herve Pierre original that at the time had not been given a price tag, but we are sure it would not have been cheap. Recently, Melania sold it for cryptocurrency for the equivalent of $170,000 in an auction from which she said part of the proceedings will go to programs for children in foster care. How much is the hat itself was worth and how much the price was inflated due to being associated with her, is not something we can speculate about.
