10. People by the River, Singapore
Chong Fah Cheong created these statues, and he is well-known for making a large number of statues that represent the people who live and work along the banks of the rivers in Singapore.
The sculpture is meant to show the lighter side of everyday life around the river, as it was in the past. This playful activity was very common in the early days of the river, which are now surrounded by luxury hotels and corporate buildings.
Chong’s sculpture acts as a reminder of simple pleasures found in the small things and shows how much daily life and the surroundings in Singapore have changed over the years.
