Family

Jill was born as the granddaughter of Italian immigrants, on the 13th of June 1951 in Hammonton, New Jersey. Her maiden name is Jill Tracy Jacobs, and she lived most of her younger years in Pennsylvania, with her parents and four younger sisters. They had a quaint life in Willow Grove, with her dad, Donald, working as a banker and her mother, Bonny, being a stay at home mom.

Education and early life

In 1969 she graduated from high school and went on to study fashion merchandising in Pennsylvania, at a junior college. What is little known about her, is that around that time she began dating a man which she married shortly after graduating. Together they both made the decision to attend the University of Delaware. Jill majored in English, but unfortunately, during their junior year, the two divorced as they grew apart while attending university.

Gap year and fate

Taking a year off, Jill became a model for a shot time for a local agency during that time. That’s when she met Joe Biden, in 1975 when his brother introduced the man to her. Their first date was a little cliche, as they went to the movies, attending a screening for “A man and a woman”. When Joe took her home after the enjoyable time spent together, he shook her hand goodnight, not making any other advances. It is reported that she called her mother to tell her that she “finally met a gentleman”, as she was impressed by his gestures.

Not an easy catch

Two years later from that fateful movie date, the Bidens tied the knot in 1977. Before Jill accepted the proposal, Joe Biden had to propose to her five times before she accepted! Jill, who then worked as a public school teacher, became a mother to her step-children, Beau and Hunter. Before the two got married, Joe’s ex-wife died in 1972 in a tragic car accident that killed her and their younger daughter in 1972.

At first, she worried about how the children and the family would take to her, and if she could make the family whole again, but there was nothing to fear as Joe himself said that he believed his late wife sent Jill to them. They both believe that love is what holds a family together and this was proven through their long marriage. In 1981, they welcomed a daughter to their family, named Ashley.
