According to Forbes, Home Alone is also the Christmas with the biggest earnings in the history of all Christmas movies in the United States, earning $285.76 million in America, and a total of $476.7 million worldwide. Home Alone is followed by ‘How the Grinch Stole the Christmas ($260.04 million), 2018’s Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch ($189.67 million), and The Polar Express in 2004 ($183.37 million).

 

Tinsel used to be made of real silver.

Tinsel has been used since forever as an inexpensive option to decorate a Christmas tree and make it look fancy. But what you didn’t know is, tinsel wasn’t always cheap. In fact, tinsel is originated in the 1600s in Nuremberg, Germany, where people used strands of real silver to decorate the Christmas tree. Since silver was very expensive, using tinsel back then was also a status symbol.

 

The largest gingerbread house was a real-size house.

If you thought doing a tiny gingerbread house was channeling, try doing a regular-sized gingerbread house. But let me tell you that it can be done. A group from Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas, built 160 feet long, 42 feet wide, and 10.1 feet tall gingerbread house in November 2013.

They used around 1,800 pounds of butter, almost 8000 eggs, 3,000 pounds of sugar, 7,200 pounds of flour, and over 22,000 pieces of candy to decorate the house.

While these numbers might seem very high for some of you, a 2020 Gallup poll has shown that on average, Americans plan on spending around $850 to buy presents for their loved ones.

 

But they spend around $1,500.

Most Americans would want to stick to a no more than 1,000 gift-budget each year, but a 2019 survey has shown that most of them tend to go overboard when buying presents for their families and loved ones. According to the study, Americans spend $1,500 on presents each holiday season.

Back in the day, Christmas treats consisted of gingerbread and candy canes. But in this day and age, the Christmas sweets industry is becoming more and more profitable each year. According to Christine Couvelier, president of the food development firm Culinary Concierge, you can now find candy cane everything, from ice cream to marshmallows and even lattes.

And Americans cannot say no to the delicious Christmas treats. In fact, they spend around 2 billion each year on Christmas sweets, as data from the National Confectioners Association shows.

One of the most popular characters of all times for the holiday seasons is Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, a character recognized by many people after the 1964 movie with the same name. However, Rudolph was originally created as an advertising gimmick to attract buyers.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was created by a 34-year-old copywriter, Robert L. May, who was asked by Montgomery Ward department store to create something to attract customers. After Rudolph was created, Montgomery Ward managed to sell more than 2.4 million copies of the story in the first year.
