Everything slows down
Joana Mendes traded 2,7 million people in Lisbon for 4,973 people in Boliqueime, Portugal. “What surprised me the most was the real quality of life; the real-time you spent with friends, not in a hurry, but really enjoying the moment.” There is an abrupt shift of speed from a major city to a small town, where everything from buying grocery stores to drinking coffee is always done more slowly and deliberately than in a busy metropolis.

i’ve lived in the rio grande valley, texas. its hot as blazes, but its very cheap to live here. san benito is 35,000 people and that’s big enough for me. of course there very little opportunity here, but i’m retired and can’t afford to live anywhere else. so i guess this is where i’m going to die. every place has its pluses and minuses……….there is no utopia……….bummer!
