The Baltics
Much like most of the countries on our list, the three states that make up the nicknamed trio The Baltics – Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia- have been restless ever since the tensions between the two countries started rising. The three remember vividly how bad they had it under Soviet rule after Stalin annexed them, as the three have gained their independence only after the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991.
This is also what could make them potential targets, where Putin’s alleged ideas of recreating the Union are true. However, the Baltics had joined NATO in 2004, eager to join in and also gain military protection from the allies. As part of NATO, they are putting a lot of importance on the fact that the organization needs to also act, not only talk in times of need.
Despite being a possible target, the three countries are in NATO, and Russia attacking them would mean starting an international war as all Western allies and the US have signed the agreement that they will aid the military in case anyone is attacked.
