1. Spend time outside
Fauci suggests spending time outdoors as much as possible while the weather is still nice because once the fall arrives and low temperatures come, we will be limited to staying indoors.
“Outdoors is always better than indoors,” Dr. Fauci told Rhode Island governor Gina Raimondo in a Facebook Live interview on Aug. 13.
He also recommends spending time in nature, in places where you don’t need to wear a mask. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), indoor spaces pose a huge risk in spreading the virus, because they often have poor ventilation and people can’t practice social distancing.
“If you look at the super-spreader events that have occurred… they’re almost always inside,” Fauci told Raimondo.
2. Soak up some sun
Fauci also urges people to spend time outside because sunshine inactivates coronavirus. “That’s one of the reasons why outside in the sun when you are interacting… That is much, much better than being inside,” Fauci explained during a recent Instagram Live interview with Hollywood A-lister Matthew McConaughey.
He is pretty sure that sunshine is the reason why certain locations and island countries have had a milder coronavirus experience. Moreover, a May 2020 study showed that sunshine is linked to killing SARS-CoV-2.
