As if their tentacled wonders weren’t already alien enough, the octopus’ three hearts and blue copper-rich blood seals the deal. One heart pumps blood into their whole systems, while the other two hearts are dedicated just to the gills.
The reason for this impressive and unusual cardiac hardware probably comes down to the uncommon composition of their blood. Squids have three hearts as well.
