Although the number of new daily infections in North Carolina falls short of any imminent lockdown, they are nonetheless alarming. The state is now experiencing a new daily average of 14.7 new coronavirus cases per 100,000 residents, with a total of 79,349 laboratory-confirmed cases in the state as of 9 July.
On Thursday, the state reported 2,039 new cases of coronavirus—the second-highest daily infection rate since the start of the pandemic—and 1,034 new hospitalizations, a substantial rise from the 774 new hospitalizations reported one month prior.
