The deepest levels of our oceans are among the planet’s least explored areas (we’ve only explored about 5%). Only the very strangest creatures will live there because of the extreme pressure, cold, and darkness at these depths. Which include giant tube worms, vampire squids, goblin sharks, and viperfish with teeth so long they can not shut their mouths. However, perhaps the strangest inhabitant is the barreleye, a big fish with a completely transparent head.

In World War I the U.S. First Infantry Division was unable to communicate with other troops because the telephone wires had been destroyed by shellfire. A young private came up with a clever solution: Rags, a mixed breed terrier embraced by the soldiers in Paris, would carry the messages tucked into his collar from one division to the next.
He saved countless lives, and Rags was buried with military honors when he passed away— in Maryland, at the very advanced age of 20.
