We may have a better understanding of public-health ethics
One of the most used words from those who aren’t taking the coronavirus as seriously as they should is that they’re not worried because it probably won’t affect them. What these people are missing is the fact that everyone can catch this virus, and it can be fatal for some.
Many people are still going to bars or on spring break. The point of self-isolation and social distancing isn’t only to protect yourself, but also to protect others, while making sure you don’t pass the virus along to other people, especially to the ones that are more vulnerable, like other people.
This is why it’s important to stay at home, even if you don’t feel sick, because you could still be an asymptomatic carrier and infect other people.
Let’s see these harsh times as a lesson of the view of the public-health ethics that sometimes you must put your own autonomy on the back burner for the greater good. Hopefully, from now on, we’ll have a better understanding of public health and we’ll continue all the habits we’re learned.
