What can you do to protect yourself from the virus?
The first and most important thing in preventing a COVID-19 infection is to get vaccinated. There are three vaccines available at the moment in the United States approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA): the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, the Moderna vaccine, and the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

However, even if you’re vaccinated, it’s still important to follow the precautions recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- Avoid crowded places, events, and large gatherings.
- Maintain the social distance (6 feet).
- If you fall into the high-risk categories, stay home as much as possible.
- Wash your hands frequently for 20 seconds.
- Use hand sanitizer when you’re not able to wash your hands (at least 60 percent alcohol).
- Wear a surgical face mask in public places.
- Do not touch your eyes, nose, and mouth when your hands aren’t clean.
- Make sure to cover your mouth and nose with your elbow when you sneeze and wash your hands after.
- Do not share food, towels, or glasses with other people.
- Frequently disinfect high-touch surfaces, including doorknobs, smartphones, light switches, and others.
- If you’re feeling sick, stay home and self-isolate.
