The 5,506 new coronavirus cases added Wednesday to Florida’s tally set a new record. The state also reported 44 new deaths, bringing the total to 3,281. Hospitalizations for COVID-19 are also on the rise, particularly in South Florida.
The Miami Herald on Tuesday reported a “silver lining in the growing number of new cases and hospitalizations” in the area: Patients are younger and less sick than those reported in April. Health experts believe this means that the virus is spreading in public as young people meet in re-opened restaurants and shops.
