Have a designated work space

It’s important to have a designated work space at home, whether we talk about a designated office or a small table for you to work on, but make sure that this zone will be for work only. It will make it easier to “leave” work at the end of the day and not let it affect your personal life.

Nevertheless, pick a spot that’s positioned away from all the commotion in the house, or, if you don’t have enough space in the house, consider making space in a tiny corner of your garage or a quiet corner in the basement just for your office.

If you have to work from the sofa or a cushy chair, invest in a rolling laptop stand that provides you a definitive work station. It’s nice to have one because it is adjustable and you can use it sitting down, lying down or any other position.

Work regular hours

Working from home doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be on a minute-by-minute schedule.

“Schedule your working day in the same way you would if you were in an office,” Evans suggests.

Respecting the schedule is definitely not easy for those who have kids, however, you can consider sharing child-care with another co-working parent, this way, you’ll both have some much-needed uninterrupted time to yourselves.

When working from home, maintaining your normal business hours is very important, as well as, thinking of yourself as “on the clock” during those hours. Also, plan to arrive and leave work at your usual hours, because it will allow you to set boundaries between work and home.
