David Cassidy lied about having dementia
David Cassidy confirmed that he was diagnosed with dementia in 2016, a disease both his mother and grandfather had, as he shared in an interview with People. Cassidy died one year later, in 2017, and most people assumed his death was caused by his dementia diagnosis.
However, his death has revealed that he was never diagnosed with this condition. The former teen idol revealed in his David Cassidy: The Last Session documentary that he lied about having dementia when in reality, he was diagnosed with liver disease.
Why did he choose to lie? Well, he wanted to hide the fact the heavy drinking and alcohol poisoning lead to his diagnosis and eventually, his death.
“There is no sign of me having dementia at this stage of my life,” Cassidy said in his documentary.
After his death, Saralena Weinfield, the documentary’s co-producer, explained that even though they knew the truth all along, they didn’t want to exploit Cassidy. “He was honest about what killed him and we decided that his legacy would be best served if we shared that.”
