Anthony Perkins’ private death
Anthony Perkins kept his personal life private and quiet. His personality was very similar to the famous character he played in Psycho, Norman Bates. However, even though his death seemed to be without warning to the public, it was later discovered that Perkins had been sick but kept it a secret.
It appears that Anthony Perkins was diagnosed with AIDS two years prior to his death, and received treatment for this condition, according to The New York Times. As his wife, Berry Berenson, has explained, he went to the hospital several times, but he used a fake name so he wouldn’t be recognized.
“You think that this man has spent his entire life giving people so much pleasure in show business, and this is his reward. He can’t even be himself at the end,” she added.
As Anthony Perkins wrote in a statement that was read only after his death, he wanted to keep the disease a secret because he didn’t want to make a big deal out of it.
